Besoin auquel le projet répond
Millions of cats worldwide are suffering. Our aim is to address the many causes of that suffering through our programmes of education to key audiences. Clinical information or research about cats is far more limited than dogs. We educate the veterinary profession by carrying out, funding and analysing research that will be used in clinical settings to improve knowledge of feline medicine and ultimately, improve the care of cats.

Description synthétique du projet:
Every year, iCatCare produce new guidelines for veterinary professionals on key issues/topics, or where there have been changes in feline medicine protocols that require an assessment of the impact the changes will have on usual practices that impact how cats are cared for. Our world renowned feline experts will produce a detailed set of guidelines that is made available worldwide free of charge to those who wish to update their knowledge. The guidelines are then adapted for cat owners/carers where applicable, so that they also have access vital and valuable information to support their knowledge development when caring for cats outside of a clinical setting. The management of Chronic kidney disease is an example of a topic covered in the guidelines for the diagnosis and management of the disease. The next set of guidelines being developed currently is for diabetes, followed by early neutering. The cost of resources to provide a new set of guidelines is met by the charity at present. Much of our funding comes from the corporate/commercial sector, but as many of our sponsors are pharmaceutical we have not sought sponsorship of our guidelines to date to ensure we retain the credibility and independence of the expertise.
Résumé des principaux objectifs attendus:
Veterinary professionals and cat owners/carers are better informed about frequently seen conditions, issues or challenges within their practices or homes; better understanding leads to improved care for cats.
