Feeding for cats

The quality of the food we give our companion animals is our first priority

Feeding advice

Almo Nature advises a feeding routine that alternates between fish, white meat, red meat, wet food and dry food. Aim for a ratio of 60% wet food and 40% dry food (kibble). Wet foods are essential in helping to keep your cat hydrated and reduce the risk of diseases in the urinary tract, whilst providing a valuable source of quality proteins. Dry foods (kibble) are important for chewing. They also provide other nutrients and allow the cat to eat several small meals in the course of a single day.

Don’t mix wet and dry cat food together. Serve them as separate meals.

Other feeding routines

Home-made pet food

PROS: The ability to personally select the ingredients is an advantage when preparing your cat’s food at home.

CONS: There’s a high level of guesswork involved in trying to find the right nutritional balance.

As a precaution, we suggest you ask your vet’s advice before choosing this approach, especially if you’re having any doubts.

Raw pet food (BARF)

A feeding routine that’s based on raw meat, carries the risk of germs and infections. A lack of vigilance in storing and handling the raw ingredients can lead to your cat becoming infected with bacteria and/or parasites that can also be transmitted to humans, such as salmonella zoonoses.

For safety, and to ensure the feeding routing has the right nutritional balance, we strongly recommend asking your vet for advice before choosing this approach.
