Celebrating 125 years of Crufts

Crufts, the world’s largest dog show, returns to the Birmingham NEC this week (Thursday 10th to Sunday 13th March). This year is a very special year for the show, it’s 125 years old and Almo Nature will be there in Hall 3, Stand 71  to exhibit our revolutionary, new Alternative kibble and help celebrate this momentous occasion.

Crufts was the brainchild of travelling dog biscuit salesman Charles Cruft back in 1891. After running several successful dog shows for the Terrier breed, Cruft decided to launch a dog show to cater for all breeds. The first show, initially named ‘Cruft’s Dog Show’, took place at the Royal Agricultural Hall in Islington in 1891. The apostrophe was dropped in later years to leave the show name that is known across the globe today.

The show has come a long way since it was founded in 1891; it was even awarded the title of ‘world’s largest dog show’ by the Guinness Book of Records in 1991 when a record-breaking 22,973 dogs were entered into the event’s showing groups.

To celebrate its 125th birthday, Crufts has produced a delightful video, narrated by show presenter and ex Blue Peter host Peter Purves, looking back at the history of the event. So sit back, relax and enjoy 125 years of Crufts in under five minutes.

What’s on at Crufts 2016

As well as looking back at the show’s 125-year history, this year’s Crufts extravaganza will see 22,000 dogs competing for the chance to win the elusive Crufts Best in Show title.

Day 1 – Thursday 10 March is the Toy and Utility dog group show day; on Day 2 – the Gundogs and their breeders will be out in the arena hoping to impress the judges; Day 3 – is the Working and Pastoral dog group’s turn to show off their wares, and then on Day 4, the Terriers and Hounds compete. This final day culminates in the winners from each category being judged for the prestigious Crufts Best in Show title – always an exciting moment!

In addition to the dog show, there is lots more to see and do including a Dog Activities Ring where you can pick up tips on how to train your pup; you can also watch the experts (the dogs!!) and their trainers perform their delightful heelwork to music routines, just like this one from show favourite Mary Ray and Richard Curtis in 2014.

All of the arena action, including the ever-popular flyball and agility competitions, will be broadcast live on Cruft’s YouTube channel so there’s no excuse not to miss a moment!!

On top of all this action, there’ll be over 400 stands exhibiting everything you could possibly want or imagine for your pampered pooch right under one roof, including our very own Almo Nature stand.

Do be sure to visit the Almo Nature team at CRUFTS 2016 stand 71, hall 3 to pick up a sample of our revolutionary, new Alternative kibble, which is the very first dry dog food to be 100% MEAT MEAL-FREE – it’ll be a great opportunity to let your dog taste this delicious new product! Furthermore, our ‘pet pit stop’ will offer complimentary water and tasty Almo Nature Confiserie dog treats for all our canine visitors 😀 Our UK team are looking forward to meeting you all so do make sure you stop by and say “Hi”.
