Founded in 2000 thanks to the intuition and experience of Pier Giovanni Capellino, a long-time entrepreneur in the field, Almo Nature was the first company in the world to introduce cat and dog food made with %100 HFC ingredients, that is, originally intended for human consumption according to Regulation (EC) No 1069/2009 Article 10 (a)

Today, the company continues to develop high-quality products such as aLternative, the dog and cat kibble (dry food) made with fresh meat as its first (main) ingredient. Another Almo Nature innovation, CatLitter, a completely natural cat litter, free of any chemical additives, has also recently been launched.

Throughout its 17-year history, Almo Nature has consistently set new industry standards with its range of innovative products made using only premium quality ingredients.

Today, Almo Nature has grown into a true “pocket-sized multinational” with its headquarters in Genoa, Italy and subsidiaries in Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, France, the Netherlands, Canada, United States and China.

Love Food

We help relieve the burden on animal rescue centres in Europe by donating a budget of 1 million meals each year for cats and dogs in emergency.

Our Love Food solidarity projects, which began in Italy, have now expanded to support rescue centres in Germany and France. And we intend to expand to other European countries.


AdoptMe is a European project to help dogs and cats in shelters find their forever homes.

The aim is to get more cats and dogs out of the shelters through adoption and encouraging the public to make more responsible choices when taking on a cat or dog. The project has already launched in Italy-Germany and France and will gradually expand throughout Europe.

Reduce the Conflict

We act to reduce the conflict between the farmers and wolves:

To support farmers, we provide dog food for livestock guard dogs as a viable choice over more inhumane predator management methods.

Complementary to these two areas, we have the DbD project; a database of dogs who donate blood in Italy:

Dog Blood Donors is a database of dogs that donate blood; the database is funded by Almo Nature with the patronage of the National Association of Italian Veterinarians (ANMVI) and the National Federation of Italian Veterinarians Orders (FNOVI).

Where did Almo Nature adventure begin?

“To convince wolves to become dogs, I imagined that humans had to promise something; we wanted to get to the bottom of just what that promise could have been.

It all started living together with my cats Shabbat and Chocolat, and dogs Shang, “Dottor Salento” and Yanga.

The fact that I can look at things “from their point of view” is thanks to them — which may seem obvious, but it’s not.

Especially Dottor Salento, who is always by my side, work and otherwise…he is the one who first inspired our philosophy, and then the products, with his attitude and gestures. He was the mind… I just gave his ideas a voice.”

Our love and respect for nature and animals takes a significant step forward

Since Almo Nature’s foundation, our love and respect for nature and animals have guided our choices. It is this philosophy – this aim to really make a difference – that has led the company to the next stage of its development…

Almo Nature will be donated to the Capellino Foundation in 2018

The company will become a lasting legacy: its purpose is to respect animals and the Earth’s precious biodiversity with all profits being donated to the Foundation.

The company will serve public interest with animal welfare and well-being at its core. Our products will serve a long-term mission that will profit nature and animals.

All the projects started under the umbrella “aLmore” will be continued and developed by the Foundation and new ones will always be implemented with a European scope.

In 2016 it achieved a consolidated turnover of 71 million euro (48% Abroad). The estimated turnover for 2017 is 80 million Euros.

Almo Nature Data

The safeguarding of the environment and the reduction of dangerous emission are goals pursued at global level. The European Union has decided to achieve a 20% greenhouse gas reduction by 2020, with France, Germany and the UK which have set a 30% reduction goal. Almo Nature has decided to follow this trend and reduce its CO2 emissions, while improving its energy efficiency.

The first step towards this goal will be the full replacement of our packaging with more sustainable materials: a 100% recyclable flexible packaging, with elimination of the usual aluminium layer laminated with plastic polymers.

Almo Nature will move towards a systemic approach in its production. It will look at: the origin of the materials it uses, to reduce the environmental impact of transport, the emitted substances when short-sighted incineration is chosen over virtuous recycling, the energy needed for production and waste disposal.

Almo Nature chooses technological innovation to tackle environmental issues, thus becoming one of the first companies in the pet food industry to actively work for the reduction of CO2 emissions.
